A feast for the eyes at Château de Gizeux! A family adventure between history and nature in Touraine

At the confluence of Touraine and Anjou, in an unspoilt green setting, stands the majestic Château de Gizeux, the largest inhabited residence in the Touraine Angevine region. With 250 metres of sun-drenched facades, galleries of 17th-century murals and a family soul that has been preserved for generations, this architectural gem invites you to an enchanted interlude, where young and old alike experience unforgettable moments together.

A family jewel at the gateway to Touraine

The de Laffon family has been passionately guarding this heritage treasure since 1786. Stéphanie and Géraud, accompanied by their children, carry on this tradition by opening the doors of their home wide. In the magnificent guest rooms with their old-world charm, guests savour an authentic chateau life.

The châteaux gallery, with its exceptional wall paintings saved from the French Revolution, bears witness to this unique family history. Tasting tours of Bourgueil wines are offered in the vaulted cellars, while children have fun on an exciting treasure hunt.

Events and workshops for young and old

Get together for themed workshops that will delight 4-12 year olds! On Mondays, discover the little beasts of the forest park. On Tuesday, enjoy tales and snacks in a warm atmosphere. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, the 18th-century oven comes back to life: kneading, baking and tasting crusty bread will delight apprentice bakers.

On Fridays, make way for heraldic art with the creation of personalised coats of arms. At weekends, the School of the Little Musketeers invites young adventurers to wield cloaks and swords. For a more free-flowing discovery, the treasure hunt “In the footsteps of Mistipouf” turns the visit into an exciting family investigation.

Night tours : the magic of candlelight

When dusk gently envelops the estate, another dimension of the château is revealed. On summer Tuesdays at 9pm, the owners don their finest period finery to guide you on a fascinating journey through time. By the flickering light of candles, the galleries and salons come to life, while dancing shadows revive the 17th-century wall frescoes.

The complicit half-light sublimates the Cordovan leather of the hangings and makes the gilding of the salons sparkle. In this beautiful setting bathed in torchlight, the tales of the inhabitants of yesteryear resonate with a special intensity. A moment suspended between dream and reality, where every step in the castle’s corridors becomes a walk through centuries past.

Stay in an exceptional setting

Do you dream of waking up in a room with ancestral woodwork? The château’s five guest rooms welcome you in a refined décor where each piece of furniture tells a story. Four-poster bed, period fireplace, view of the park or courtyard of honour: choose your ambience for a night out of time.

In the Contades flat, a vast family suite, enjoy a spacious living room and fully equipped kitchen. For a more unusual experience, the perched cabin at 4 metres high offers you a cosy nest in the heart of the forest park.

Privileged guests of the château enjoy a gourmet breakfast served in the historic salons. Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and other prestigious vineyards are just a few minutes’ drive away to enrich your stay with an oenological interlude.
