The 20s at Château de Montpoupon

You’d think it was haunted. It is, to a certain extent, but… there are no ghosts on the horizon. On the other hand, the presence of the former occupants of Château de Montpoupon is clearly felt throughout the visit, to the point where you almost expect them to return at any moment!

Montpoupon castle and the Motte Saint-Pierre family

Renaissance in date, the château de Montpoupon was bought in 1857 by Jean-Baptiste Léon de la Motte Saint-Pierre. Emile, Bernard and Solange de la Motte Saint-Pierre succeeded him, all leaving their mark. Madame’s chambermaid in the last century, Louise reveals all the secrets of the château during a most original guided tour!!

Passing the Amboise Room, the dining room, the kitchens, or even the Marshal’s bedroom, enter the family’s private apartments. Immerse yourself with delight in the atmosphere of the early 20th century, helped by the presence of period furniture but also, and above all, by many personal objects. Clocks, shoe kits, hats, travel trunks, toiletries, perfumes, a telephone with handset, a typewriter, Hermès fashion accessories… the whole ensemble is a perfect testament to the family’s elegance and chic lifestyle.

The rest of the visit

The second part of the tour of Château de Montpoupon focuses on the world of venery, and in particular the stables. 30 exhibition rooms show harnessing, horse-drawn carriages and saddlery. In the kingdom of hunting with hounds, the horse is king!

Outdoors, discover educational terminals that mark out a forest walk in the park. Younger visitors will enjoy meeting the various animals that live here, as well as the different species of trees found on site. At the edge of the woods, take advantage of the ideal viewpoint from a water mirror to photograph the tall silhouette of this little jewel that is Montpoupon.
