The heat wave has hit Crissay sur Manse in August 1970. Superintendent Petitbras finds himself entrusted with an investigation by Divisional Superintendent Jalabert of Tours that he could have done without. Based in L'Ile-Bouchard, in a temporary and ephemeral police station for disciplinary reasons that even the author is unaware of, he is no longer used to investigating. His deputy, Marcel Soulat, supports him in this adventure, which is not entirely under control.
One morning, at around seven o'clock, the owners of Château de Crissay take their dog out and discover a dead body. But who is it? Where did it come from? Who killed him and why?
