The enchanting Montlouis vineyard circuit

Serpenting along the tuffeau hillsides, the cycle route guides you to the heart of one of the Loire Valley’s most beautiful terroirs. From Montlouis town centre, pedal up to the heights where the rows of Chenin Blanc, the unique grape variety of the appellation d’origine, flourish. Halfway up the slope, stop off at a rest area with breathtaking views over the confluence of the Loire and Cher rivers. Further along, the green route leads past troglodytic cellars, silent witnesses to centuries-old know-how. The winegrowers open their doors to you for a well-deserved tasting break, in a cool place.

Tasting break at the winemakers

At the heart of your walk, the Maison Laudacius welcomes you to its tufa galleries where almost 2 million bottles are aged. Let yourself be guided through this underground maze for a tasting of the great Montlouis wines, all made from the Chenin grape. A little further along your route, the Domaine de la Croix Mélier opens the doors of its former cooperage, just a few pedal strokes from the cycle route. For a unique experience, schedule your break at the Domaine de l’Ouche Gaillard where the winemaker lets you discover his vintages against the panorama of verdant hillsides.

The main 15-kilometre circuit takes around 2? hours, including breaks. For your comfort, there are water points and toilet facilities every 5 kilometres. A shaded picnic area awaits you at kilometre 8, overlooking the Loire. Ride with peace of mind: the Loire à Vélo signposting is impeccable.
