Top 10 family activities

Pack your bags, Touraine is THE destination for the whole family. Young and old alike can have fun, get some fresh air, relax and learn new things… not a bad programme!

1. In the fresh air Orientation course

A sensitive natural area, the Bois des Rouchoux has 3 orienteering trails of varying levels. The leaflets for these routes are freely available at the entrance to the site. It’s up to you to find the markers. Not always easy to interest, but teenagers are very keen on this type of activity!

2. Board the safari train! The Beaumarchais reserve

A safari? Yes, but with fallow deer, wild boar, hinds and red deer, ostriches, Corsican mouflons… not forgetting the wallabies and the impressive bison! Take the little train and discover this large breeding park on a guided tour suitable for all ages. Before or after the tour, you can eat at the inn, where the cuisine of these great game animals is given pride of place.

3. Escape Game

If you’re looking for a participative activity, you’ve come to the right place. All the members of your little family will have to roll up their sleeves to complete, for example, the Monument Game in the royal fortress of Chinon or the sparkling game in the heart of the cellars at Domaine Lacheteau. On the same principle, Les Secrets d’Amboise and L’enquête tourangelle (Tours) will take you on a mystery tour of these 2 towns.

4. Educational farms

For a number of years now, the Vazereau and Cabri-au-lait goat farms have been revealing the secrets of their delicious goat cheeses to the general public, with a permanent trail for the former and regular events for the latter.

In the south of the département, there’s also Ani’Maurice, home to over a hundred animals. Here you can buy products directly from the Maurice cheese dairy! In the north, head for the mini-farm at Domaine de la Borderie!

5. Trees course

It’s a holiday classic that’s as popular as ever. From tree to tree, children follow routes adapted to their age, in terms of difficulty and height. Parents too, to show they’re not afraid either!

6. Aquarium de Touraine

Is it going to rain? No problem, theaquarium will keep you dry in the middle of millions of litres of water. Introduce your children to the many local species of freshwater fish, as well as fish from much further afield. For example? Sharks, but also a little clown fish, which has become quite famous in recent years… 😉

7. Castles with children

While all the châteaux offer special facilities (game booklets, histopads, etc.) for young visitors, a few stand out:

There’s also the Chanteloup pagoda, with its fine collection of wooden games for young visitors.

8. The Goupillières troglodyte valley

Discover an unusual facet of past centuries that has remained in the shadow of the great châteaux. The memories of kings and queens live on in history books, but what about the peasants of yesteryear? Well, this very attractive site sheds light on this past, through the life of a troglodytic farm and its animals.

9. Manual workshops

A number of sites offer regular events during the school holidays, starting with the Musée de la Préhistoire in Grand-Pressigny, with fire-lighting demonstrations. Master craftsmen also share their skills, with the Centre d’Art autour de l’Osier (Villaines-les-Rochers) and Poterie en Folie (Chargé).
