Art Conference as Part of International Women's Day
Hosted by Jessica Degain, Heritage Curator at the Museum of Fine Arts in Tours.
A practice dating back to the Renaissance, the self-portrait serves as a means of self-representation, at the intersection of the personal and the political. For women artists, the self-portrait poses a particular challenge: asserting professional status, expressing an inner world that is at times cathartic, and affirming a feminine perspective that breaks with sexualization and misogyny.
