CONFERENCE "RESISTANCE AND RESISTANCE FIGHTERS IN TOURAINE (1940–1944): MOVEMENTS AND NETWORKS IN THE STRUGGLE AGAINST THE OCCUPIER" Vérétz - Eugène Bizeau Hall
By Thierry Vivier, a specialist in the history of aviation, the Resistance, and World War II, and author of several books. The Resistance in Touraine developed gradually between 1940 and 1944 in response to the German occupation and the regime of Philippe Pétain. After the defeat in June 1940, Touraine was split in two by the demarcation line (to the north, the occupied zone including Tours; to the south, the free zone). It was under these specific conditions that underground networks, resistance movements, and maquis groups formed to carry out a multitude of actions that led to the Liberation in August–September 1944.
