After the defeat in June 1940, Touraine was split in two by the demarcation line (to the north, the occupied zone including Tours; to the south, the free zone). It was under these specific conditions that underground networks, resistance movements, and maquis groups formed to carry out a multitude of actions that led to the Liberation in August–September 1944.
