The Duke of Vienna, shirking his responsibilities, has entrusted the regency to a young Puritan, Angelo. Exhuming a forgotten law, Angelo condemns a young man (his fiancée is pregnant) to death. Isabella, his sister, comes to plead for mercy. Will she succeed, with the help of the Duke (disguised as a monk), in exposing Angelo?s turpitude? Between palaces and prisons, colorful characters search for their rightful place.
