This weekend, explore the concept of celestial bodies. This exhibition examines the enduring influence of Alexander Calder’s creative principles on contemporary artistic practices. It brings together works by seven artists who have spent timeat the Atelier Calder in Saché, the former studio of the American sculptor, which became an artist-in-residence program welcoming international artists in 1989. Whether or not they were created in this inspiring setting, the works on display resonate with a constellation of themes that run through Alexander Calder’s own experiments. Sculpture is approached here through the lens of physical concepts such as gravity and balance, to which light and movement lend a shifting appearance without ever fixing them in place.
