Vignobles & Découvertes Destination Chinon Bourgueil Azay

Treat yourself to a vineyard holiday! Admire the vineyard landscapes, taste the latest vintages in a troglodytic cellar, take part in wine workshops and meet the winemakers… in short, immerse yourself in the world of wine in the west of Touraine!

Also on the programme: visits (the royal fortress of Chinon, the château of Azay-le-Rideau, etc.), outdoor activities (cycling, hiking, etc.), restaurants… and their wine lists, which give pride of place to local nuggets.

Known AOCs and secret AOCs

5 Loire Valley AOCs make up the Vignobles & Découvertes Chinon Bourgueil Azay destination:

  • Chinon (2,400 hectares / red, rosé and white wines)
  • Bourgueil (1,400 hectares / red and rosé wines)
  • Saint-nicolas-de-bourgueil (1,050 hectares / red and rosé wines)
  • Touraine azay-le-rideau (50 hectares / white and rosé wines)
  • Touraine noble-joué (30 hectares / rosé wines)

Between Tours and Angers, discover a wide range of flavours from some of France’s great appellations, as well as terroirs little known to the general public. As well as wines from the main appellation, most of the wineries also produce other cuvées, in particular fine bubbles from the Touraine and Crémant de Loire appellations.

Vineyards on stage See you in October!

A highlight for all the destinations in France awarded the Vignobles & Découvertes label, Vignobles en Scène brings together a wide range of wine-related events (introductory tastings, vineyard visits, food and wine pairings, banquets, etc.) over the course of a weekend.

More information to come in the next few weeks!

Cellar visits and activities in the vineyard

Whether it’s a simple tasting or a wine and food pairing, a ride through the vineyards on an electric scooter or on horseback, an escape game, a workshop on pruning the vines, a meal on the estate… in Touraine, the winegrowers offer a wide range of activities to give you a memorable and authentic experience. A word of advice: if you’re looking for more than just a wine tasting, it’s often necessary to book in advance so that the professionals can welcome you in the best possible conditions.

Below is a list of all the tourist operators with the Vignobles et Découvertes label: wineries, restaurants, accommodation, leisure activities, etc.

On foot or by bike in the vineyard

The Vignobles et Découvertes label

“Vignobles & Découvertes” is a wine tourism label awarded by Atout France (the national tourism operator) to destinations that combine visits to wine estates with other tourist attractions and services: sightseeing sites, accommodation, restaurants, bike hire, boat hire, etc. The backbone of a Vignobles & Découvertes area is obviously the tourist cellars. In the Loire Valley, they are regularly audited to guarantee a high-quality welcome.
