Sound and light shows at the châteaux of the Loire Valley A spectacular summer of light and sound

In summer, it’s show time! As soon as night falls, the monuments rustle with a joyful, polite effervescence. Here and there, people wait patiently for the first sounds and lights to announce the start of colourful evenings. Whether contemporary creations or historic frescoes, these events reveal a different face of the Loire châteaux, magnifying their architecture with subtle lighting effects.

Immerse yourself in a fairytale setting

As daylight fades, the atmosphere slips into a gentle reverie that we are only too happy to lose ourselves in. In the gardens of Villandry, for example, delight in the countless candles that create the magical setting for the ‘Nights of a Thousand Lights’ (31 July, 1 and 2 August 2026), punctuated by a fireworks display.

At Chenonceau Castle, stroll beneath the stars along the illuminated paths of the park, where the graceful melodies of the great Renaissance composers fill the air. And don’t miss the tasting under the stars (Saturday 18 July), an experience where exceptional wines and an enchanting setting come together perfectly.

On the banks of the Indre

Musical evenings at the Château de l’Islette

Whilst the love story of Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel, which is regularly showcased here, attracts a substantial number of visitors during the day, a large crowd also flocks to Château de l’Islette in the evenings once summer arrives.

And with good reason! The‘L’Islette à la belle étoile’ evenings on Wednesdays give way on Thursdays to a jazz-accompanied picnic and drinks, followed by the open-air café atmosphere of‘L’Islette en fête’ on Fridays, before the Saturday evenings of picnics and music. All the more reason to spend at least one evening every summer on the banks of the Indre!

Take advantage of these exceptional evenings to discover the château and its grounds by the light of 1,000 candles, while sharing a picnic with family and friends by the water. From 2 July to 27 August 2026!

Azay-le-Rideau’s Evening Events

Before or after the show, enjoy the glass-like light illuminating the façades as you stroll through the park’s paths by the glow of torches and lanterns.
