Street Art A journey into contemporary urban art!

Forget everything you thought you knew about art in Touraine! Against a backdrop of historic walls and contemporary façades, street art is boldly reinventing towns and villages. From Tours to Amboise, via Candes-Saint-Martin, spectacular works are transforming the urban landscape into an open-air gallery. Admire the monumental murals, poetic stencils and colourful mosaics that tell a new chapter in our history.

Street Art in Touraine

In Tours, there are also a few hidden gems dotted here and there, such as the mosaics by MifaMosa, which line the street signs. Still no works by the elusive Banksy, but perhaps one day, who knows… 😉Note also that in the centre of Tours, a few art galleries on Rue de la Scellerie showcase artists whose creations draw on the codes of street art.

ThePeaky Perlers are no strangers to Amboise (and many other towns), with around thirty bead installations recreating well-known works. An impressive Megalodon in Savigné-sur-Lathan won the Golden Street Art award in 2023!

On the subject of street art, do note the ‘Graffeur au château’ event in Crissay-sur-Manse (in July), as well as the Pussifolies (June) in the village of Pussigny.

A Street Art Park in Candes-Saint-Martin

In 2019, street art was given a special spotlight with the creation of a piece at the Royal Château of Amboise by Andréa Ravo Mattoni, a specialist in reproducing ‘classical’ paintings using spray paint.

That same year, a Street Art Park opened its doors in Candes-Saint-Martin, France’s most beautiful village on the edge of Anjou. Overlooking the confluence of the Loire and Vienne rivers, the grounds of Candes Castle welcome graffiti artists, street artists and other creatives who have come to “de-gentrify” the castle’s image, in the owners’ own words. Fabrice Claval, former director of exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo, is part of the venture.

Discover this veritable 5-hectare open-air museum, combining greenery with contemporary art.
