The Scandibérique The pilgrims' cycle route

Set off on an adventure on this major cycle route linking Norway to Santiago de Compostela in Spain! Over 1,776 km, EuroVelo 3 crosses France under the name Scandibérique, with stops in Maubeuge, Compiègne, Paris, Orléans, Tours, Angoulême, Bordeaux and Mont-de-Marsan.

Pedal the Scandibérique in Touraine

In Touraine, this route follows the Loire à Vélo cycle route, from Amboise to Tours. Ride through the heart of the Loire Valley, a World Heritage site!

Plan a stopover in Amboise, the town of 3 châteaux: the Royal Château of Amboise, the Château du Clos Lucé and Château Gaillard. Continue on to the bucolic setting of the pond at La Varenne-sous-Chandon and the vineyards of Montlouis-sur-Loire, before reaching Tours and its charming historic and shopping districts.

South of Tours, the Scandibérique merges with the Saint-Jacques à Vélo cycle route, heading for Veigné (from where you can reach the fortress of Montbazon by following the Cyclo Bohème) and then Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine and its scenographic area dedicated to the famous goat’s cheese. Immediately afterwards, don’t miss the Maison du Souvenir in Maillé, where you can learn about a little-known episode in the Second World War.

Please note: if there is no “Scandibérique” signposting, follow the “La Loire à Vélo” signposting as far as Tours, then “Saint-Jacques à Vélo”.

Prepare your trip

Use the map below and the official website to plan your cycling trip according to your level, the places you want to visit and, of course, the accommodation (campsites, hotels, B&Bs, etc.). For your comfort, opt for addresses with the Accueil Vélo label, offering services tailored to cyclists.

And don’t forget to pack a repair kit, water bottle, rain gear and a map in case you lose your phone!
