Welcome to the farm! Top 10 places to eat and drink

Do you enjoy spending a morning at the market during the holidays, looking for good local produce? Then don’t hesitate to drop in on the farmers in the Bienvenue à la Ferme network: they’ll be delighted to offer you their ultra-short-run produce. Below is a selection of 10 farms to visit from among the fifty or so producers bearing this label in Touraine.

Touraine cheeses Welcome to the farm

Ah, sainte-maure-de-touraine… a delight, this goat’s cheese! Make the most of your time in Touraine to pick it up directly from the producer, with la Cabrett’ du Viornay, les fromages d’Angel, not forgetting la ferme du Vazereau, an educational farm offering tours, a lunchtime option in fine weather (cheese board & charcuteries) and goat raclette. And as we also have a few cows in the landscape, let’s also mention la Fromagerie Maurice with products distributed directly at another educational farm linked to the farm: les Ani’Maurice.

Fruit, vegetables and oils Welcome to the farm

After visiting one of Touraine’s many wine estates (Bourgueil, Chinon, Vouvray…), vary the pleasures with fruit juices from vergers de la Manse, with a wide range of tastes. In autumn, apple picking is also on offer. This is also the case at jardins de Meslay for various fruits and vegetables, starting in spring. One last good address: la Gâtine Laurentaise, with itslentils, chickpeas, flours, linseed, rapeseed and sunflower oils.

Fish and meat Welcome to the farm

Restaurant, la Cabane à matelot also serves as a shop for salesman Romain Gadais, one of the few professional Loire fishermen. You can enjoy rillettes of Loire barbel with oyster mushrooms, fish soups and smoked Loire catfish. For smoked trout, head to the Viviers du Moulin de Langeais, where a restaurant also welcomes you in fine weather. And for rillettes de Tours, as well as sausages, rillons, andouillettes, charcuterie, terrines and other preserves, make a diversion to Betz-le-Château, at the ferme des Bournaichères – Maison Galland.
